The Thousand Paper Cuts Arts Retreat and Festival (ThoPCARE) was inspired in 2003 by the mountaintop vision of our founder, Miriam Vanbest. In her words:

I found myself irradiated and uplifted in the essence of the divine, penetrated and exacerbated by the intensity of the colours, the caress of the vultures, the tongue of God. I knew it was my ineffable calling to bring others into the creative womb from which I had just been birthed.
We have spent every day since that day trying to live up to Mirian’s call, caring for every artist who visits ThoPCARE as baby birds preparing for their first flight. We truly believe that at our retreat, you will be reborn as the artist you were always intended to be.
Although I am not a painter, I think that the iconicity of the spatial relationships spatially undermines the eloquence of these pieces.
